Three Easy Ways to Retain Moisture in the Winter
Use Hot Treatments
When it’s cold outside, you’ll do anything to stay warm! Why not a hot oil treatment? Hot oil treatments are perfect for restoring moisture and sheen to damaged hair, leaving it softer and stronger than ever before.
Our Blended Therapy Hot Oil Treatment is a unique blend of essential oils, herbs, and botanicals such as Jojoba Oil, Avocado Oil, and Eucalyptus Oil which promotes growth and strength of hair and scalp health through follicle stimulation. Improves hair shine and thickness for healthier hair.
How to Use:
- Fill large microwave-safe mug with water half way.
- Microwave water for about a minute and a half.
- Place bottle of Blended Therapy Hot Oil Treatment in cup.
- Wait until oil is warm. (Usually takes less than 5 minutes.)
- Shake bottle well, then massage approximately 1 ounce of oil into scalp and run through hair.
- Apply the oil to the rest of hair, focusing on the tips and ensuring the entire hair shaft is exposed to the oil.
- (Optional) Cover hair with plastic cap for 15-30 minutes. Rinse hair well, then continue with shampoo or regular hair routine.
Another hot treatment you should try this winter is a deep conditioning steam treatment using our Honey and Sage. It’s ideal because honey is a natural humectant, which means it pulls moisture from the air. When you add steam, that’s even more moisture coming in. PLUS, the steam opens up your hair follicles allowing all the natural goodness to really penetrate your hair.
I know we all love our twist outs, but for the winter time, it’s best to keep your hair in protective style. For the healthiest hair and scalp, once the braids are ready to come out and your curls and coils bounce back in full force, we suggest choosing a style that isn’t too tight and allows you to get access to your scalp. Your scalp needs just as much care and love as the rest of your hair!
Tips for protective styles:
Prep your hair first by deep conditioning it like we mentioned above. Then cleanse your scalp with a clarifying shampoo like our Moisturizing Black Soap Shampoo, which washes your hair thoroughly, but without stripping your hair or its natural oils.
Scalp care is important for the overall health of your hair but also your edges! Don’t choose a tight style that will pull on your edges as they are the most susceptible to breakage. We recommend rubbing some Essential 17 to your edges and scalp every night. Essential 17 contains a combination of the 17 of the most powerful oils and herbs that are known to promote hair growth.
Moisturize your braids every day. You can apply a leave-in conditioner like our Lemongrass Leave In or an oil like our Shine Crave Hair Glosser which will moisturize but also keep your hair looking super shiny and healthy.
Wrap your hair in a silk bonnet at night or sleep with a silk pillow to prevent frizz and breakage. Plus it keeps all the goodness in your hair since cotton tends to soak up product.
